Escalada Vía del Pany (IV+) is a classic 240-metre climbing route on the north face of Calpe’s iconic Peñón de Ifach, offering seven pitches of adventure in a spectacular setting. This unequipped route (with only two bolts per belay) demands traditional gear—friends, fisureros, and at least 12 slings—while delivering breathtaking Mediterranean views and turquoise coastal waters. The first pitch, a narrowing chimney, sets the tone for a committing ascent, as retreat is difficult once underway. Access starts at the Peñón de Ifach Natural Park car park, followed by a 15-minute walk to the base. Note that climbing is prohibited from 1 April to 30 June due to nesting birds. A highly recommended route for beginners in pitch climbing. The only trickier route to tackle is the chimney on the first pitch. However, it's well protected. You can also skirt it if you don't like navigating between two walls. It's recommended to bring at least 12 slings and friends. There are cords and some bolts on the wall. Equipped belays.
Best views for Calpe from above. There are two parts of the route to the Ifach rock. Easy one - to the tunnel and hard one after it. Every one can hike first part and experience fantastic views from about 190m above see level. But when you get through the tunnel you're starting climbing rather than hiking. Steepy slippery slope all the way up. Chairs to support on some parts. I would not recommend it for amateurs or people with scared of heights. It is required to book you visit in advance but we couldn't do it due to website errors. No one checking it anyway. On hot days best to go either early morning or just to make it before sun set.
A lovely place to walk and admire the scenery; to go to the top you need to book an appointment on the website, it's free but you need to allow plenty of time.
