Parque CAN

Beware, dangerous dog in the dog parc in Calpe. This message to warn you to be careful with this dog if you are going to the dog parc in Calpe near la Fossa beach. We were with our two galgos in the parc this morning and my wife was slowly walking watching them to ensure all was well when this dog came suddenly from behind her and bit her horribly. After that the dog started chasing our galgos looking like he intended to attack them, especially the smaller younger one. I chased after him to make him go away, hitting the leash on the ground to scare him off. All the while the lady who was the owner was sitting on a bench, her head in her phone and not caring about what was going on. When we confronted her, instead of presenting any apologies the only thing she could say is that her dog has never bitten anyone and she was there since two hours and nothing had happened. Well, this statement is not true, her dog has now bitten someone. He was also growling at other people, including the policemen when they came. We called the police and they took statements from everyone. One surprising thing is that one of the policeman told us that these thing happen and if you go to such a park this is the kind of things that can happen. Well that is unbelievable. If you cannot control your dog you should not be there. The minimum would be a muzzle but if the dog is aggressive you should not be there in the first place. You are going to the park to let your dog run free have have fine time. You are not expecting that either you or your dog will be bitten. What a shame. The worst is that one of our rescued galgos is with us since less than two months and we are trying to socialize him. Yesterday he had very nice experience and although he is still afraid of dogs he started playing a little bit. Now he is traumatized again. He vomitted in the car back home from the stress. So folks, if you are meeting that dog, just stay away ! No regulations are mentioned at the entrance of the parc, nothing about responsibilities and obligations of owners. Really disappointing.

An ideal park for dog owners, as it's a huge space, full of shade. There's a hole in the fence, and you have to be careful with escapees... The mosquitoes are horrible; you don't realize it, but they eat you. I ended up being eaten entirely after a week of taking the dogs twice a day.

The park is beautiful. The Spanish with their aggressive dogs are terrible. Today, three large dogs attacked my chihuahuas. The Spanish didn't react at all. They laughed. They mistook me for a Ukrainian woman and told me 'go home". One of the Spanish almost beat me up. The woman was with a hasky which attacked my dog. The other Spanish were standing in a group with large dogs. Three days earlier, a young man with a German Shepherd and a pit bull was in the park. He was throwing them a ball all over the park as if he were alone. I entered the park with my four dogs, who luckily were in a stroller. I didn't have time to let the dogs out, and the pit bull jumped on the stroller. Later, he attacked me while I was rescuing my dogs. My clothes were all torn and dirty. I tried to call 112, but I couldn't because the pit bull kept attacking me. I told him I'd report it to the police, and he told me to call !. "The police were my friends and wouldn't do anything !!!".  He only take the dogs on a leash when he left the park. I wonder why the Spanish don't keep dangerous dogs under control. Pit bulls are a dangerous breed and should be muzzled and on a leash. The police should patrol this place frequently. And why do the Spanish hate tourists so much?! Telling me to "go home" is the least rude thing you can think of. Calpe is the worst place I've visited in the last eight years in Spain. The locals hate tourists and treat dog owners with hatred. This is a matter for the police.

A very clean, large, and shady park. One of the best I've been to.
